Deeper Levels of Thinking and Innovative Technologies are the focus for Education Week 2009. Our Preps, grade1 and grade2 students have an open invitation for visitors on Monday at 2pm, to see how De Bono's Thinking Hats are used as an analysis tool. The students in grades 3 and 4 will be designing and developing an 'Interactive Teamboard' activity to share with their peers. They will also follow up their excursion to Dromkeen with a character parade. Grade 5 students will step into the 'real world' of taxes, finances and budgeting as they commence their Earn and Learn Program, as well as utilize their 'Interactive Teamboards' using resources available from the Macedon Ranges wiki site. Our grade six students are developing their skills using their new portable Netbook computers.
Wednesday 12th of March was national ride to school day NGPS had an overwhelming response with over 200 students either riding, skating, scooting or walking to school. It was a fun day enjoyed by all.
To maintain
the schools’ focus of Sustainability, the students examined the amount of
litter produced in and around the school grounds over the course of a
week. Highlights of the week were a
‘Nude Food’ day where students were to minimise the amount of packaging
litter they brought to school, as well as the Trashy Fashion Show where
only recycled materials could be used.

On the
4th of June the students celebrated a Layers Day. The idea of the day is to
encourage students to wear layers of clothing rather than relying on heating to
keep students warm throughout winter.
The students’ blood was flowing after the Pov Chi exercises. Even
Thermometer Man joined in the warm ups.

‘Snug
as bugs in rugs’ students layered up in scarves, beanies and woollen hats.

Tournament of the minds
The T.O.M has four teams
with a short-term and long-term problem that they have to act out every year
competing against other schools. These team areas are social science, math
engineering and language literature. T.O.M. was designed to get kids creatively
thinking and writing with a little spot of acting on the side. Children can
learn to use team bonding, leadership and problem solving skills as well. The
teams compete, earn points and maybe even go to the next level!

During this term the grade 5’s and 6’s have been creating solar boats. They are made out of polystyrene and balsa wood. The 5’s and 6’s were given six solar panels, a motor and shaft, a propeller and the regulations on how you were allowed to build the boat and how to wire up the solar panels correctly.
Every group started to make there own design of how the boat
would look. There were lots of different designs. Some were catamaran-style
some were a triangle shape and some had a triangle front and a rectangle body.
Once these boats were made we started to race and modify them to get them to go
faster. We started to take some times for these boats so we could decide on
which ten boats would go to

After our Kilometre Klub runners reached

Even Galloway Man flew in for this special event.
The equivalent of 50 marathons was the total distance covered-a remarkable ‘feet’.
At the end of the day,
